This is a bit of a different post – a walk in through the city for Brisbane Open House last weekend has resulted in a few more architectural/details kind of images… a fair way from my usual industrial colour!
It occurred to me today just how much time I spend on taking/going through/posting my photos… and it made me wonder how much it is in comparison with my 365 project last year. Sure – I’m not working on it daily (like I was), but the time spent is definitely still substantial. That said… the pressure is gone (good thing, too!) – and even though I think I’m probably enjoying myself a touch more than I was, it makes me wonder if I’m pushing myself the way I had to previously. Am I finding new places? Definitely. Am I taking photos in a different kind of way? I guess. Should I try harder? It’s difficult to know, since I don’t have and end goal (or date!) to work to any more. For the time being I figure I’ll just take it as it comes and see where I end up!
I’m on a bit of a mission to tick as many places off my list as possible (spurred on by this, for sure) – so it’s good to have some of these done and dusted. That said, I haven’t been so good at actually writing down places – they’re in my head and I often don’t remember them until I drive past… which is far from the most ideal situation!
Another different manoeuvre in this lot – I’m so tricky! (who am I kidding?!) First photo in this lot was taken when pulled up at a set of traffic lights, and I leant across my poor husband (who was driving) and took it out his car window. Weirdly, I’ve never been at that intersection before, so it was a bit of a surprise! I’ve photographed the blue/white wall before, as well – but I’ve been admiring this shadow for a while now so needed to take a photo of it before it changes again. Also… it’s not uncommon for me to hear people say things about me or the thing I’m photographing when they pass by (remember this incident?) – this weekend was the funniest one I’ve had. Casually minding my own business, kneeling down to take a photo of a mailbox (as you do), and a car drives past – from which a male passenger yells ‘cheeeeese!’. It absolutely made my day!
I’ve been carting a camera permanently in my bag since November 2012, and I’ve had my current camera since August 2013 – so you could say I’m pretty familiar with the limitations/pros/cons that my little Fuji has! The second photo in this series is a new one, though – I desperately wanted to take a photo of this door (wouldn’t you?), but it was behind a closed gate. My camera wouldn’t fit through the bars in the fence, so what did I do? Put the camera over the top of the fence and then hold it through the fence with my other hand, and try and eyeball the live view to get things lined up. Took a few goes to get it right (my coordination leaves a bit to be desired sometimes!) – but I finally ended up with one I was happy with. I’d love to see their security tape: arms outstretched through the fence, trying to see the screen…!
